The key to a successful GKAS program begins with the participating locations.  The extent of your planning and organization make all the difference in a child’s experience, as well as your staff’s.

To that end, the New Jersey GKAS team has prepared some tips, documents and links to help make your GKAS event the best it can be. SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN FOR IMPORTANT PROGRAM DOCUMENTS.

10 Tips for a Successful GKAS Event

  1. Contact your local school nurses to let them know your office is participating in the program. They have all been contacted about the statewide program by NJDA.
  2. Assign specific roles and responsibilities to your office staff to ensure a smooth and efficient system for maximizing chair time for children.
  3. Make sure enough GKAS forms and documentation (see below) have been reviewed, printed and copied prior to the day of the event.
  4. Alert your local newspaper or cable TV station about your event with a brief press release.
  5. Leave a few appointment slots open for possible walk-ins.
  6. Attend all planned GKAS meetings to learn all you can about the program from those who have more experience.
  7. Make contact with the other local participating locations.  Work with them to manage overflow of empty appointment slots.
  8. Engage some sort of entertainment for waiting children. A balloon artist, face painters, clowns, etc., work very well and ease the child’s anxiety about coming to the dentist.
  9. Provide parents/guardians with follow-up treatment options (see below) as they leave your office.
  10. Let families in your church, synagogue, mosque or other house of worship know about your event.
