Course Description
This program will provide an overview and history of the imaging modalities commonly used in implant surgery and their limitations. Cone beam imaging will be highlighted, specifically focusing on 3D imaging and how it has revolutionized the way dentists plan surgical treatment. Cone beam imaging allows doctors to visualize the 3D topography of the planned surgical site and, in conjunction with third party modeling software, allows the surgeons to pre-plan implant locations and trajectories as well as anticipate graft needs. This technology is beneficial in patient communication, allowing patients to better visualize their problem and see the virtual treatment plan, aiding in increased patient understanding and case acceptance. The presentation will provide the basics in software planning and the relation to the surgical procedure -- specifically integration with the guided surgery modules.
