Course: Calibrate Your Risk Radar
Course Description:
This new course is designed to teach dentists how to spot issues that arise during treatment which could lead to complaints, claims, or lawsuits. Through examination of actual TDIC cases and Risk Management Advice Line calls, this course highlights useful risk management strategies related to patient care and case selection.
Learning Objectives:
- Employ comprehensive patient and case selection criteria.
- Identify the warning signs of high-risk patients, situations and cases.
- Identify when to refer patients.
Speakers: Thomas McCormack, Esq. and Dr. Bradley Yee
Thomas A. McCormack is a partner in the Philadelphia office of Naulty, Scaricamazza & McDevitt, LLC and practices with the firm's Insurance Defense Department. He focuses his practice in the areas of litigation, medical malpractice, dental malpractice, defamation and insurance defense. Thomas has twenty-four years of experience litigating complex professional liability claims and insurance defense claims in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He has represented insured and self-insured corporations, hospitals, physicians, nurses, dentists, oral surgeons, periodontists, endodontists, orthodontists, obstetricians and veterinarians in all aspects of litigation from initial pleadings through trial. He has also successfully resolved matters through alternate dispute resolutions including mediation and arbitration. He has represented dentists and dental specialists before the Pennsylvania Dental Board in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and the New Jersey Dental Board in Newark, New Jersey. Prior to joining Naulty, Thomas was an associate with the firm of Harad, Gittleman, Greenberg, Brunner and Love where he focused primarily on professional liability claims. A graduate of Providence College, Thomas received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Villanova University School of Law in 1996. While attending law school, Thomas served as a member of Moot Court. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and New Jersey Bar Association. He is admitted to practice law in both of these states as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania.
Bradley Yee graduated for the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry and has been practicing general dentistry for 32 years in the Sacramento area. He currently volunteers for CDA's peer review program and assists in locating follow up treatment for patients attending CDA Cares events. He speaks nationally for The Dentist Insurance Company on topics of risk management.
