Statement from NJDA President and NJDA President-elect on recent WHO guidance to delay routine dental care
The NJDA vehemently opposes the position of the WHO on it's guidance to delay routine dental care. At the NJDA's advice, New Jersey dentists are expected to adhere to the CDC guidelines and NJ DCA administrative order to create the safest possible environment for our patients and personnel, and to date no cluster of COVID has been publicly reported due to the delivery of routine dental services that the WHO cautions against receiving. Since the onset of the pandemic, dentists have been deemed essential healthcare providers in NJ and since we have returned to our offices on May 26th for delivery of more expanded services, we have witnessed the more costly and invasive repercussions of delaying treatment in the patients we have seen to date. Moreover, we have received nothing but accolades from our patients and staff for the efforts we have made to prevent COVID transmission in our office environment.
The NJDA advises NJ dentists and their patients to continue to follow the guidance of the CDC and NJ DCA Administrative Order, which permit the delivery of necessary preventive and restorative dental care.
