On February 19th, Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation to expand New Jersey's decade-old Paid Family Leave law by doubling the amount of paid leave time employees may take from six to 12 weeks, as well as increased the maximum weekly benefit from $650 a week to $860. The increase in coverage will stem from an increase in employee proportion of the TDI tax. Employers will not see a tax increase under this law. Of significance, the law lowers the job protection requirement to businesses with 30 or more employees - down from 50 as was previously provided in the law.
