The NJDA's VIRTUAL Lunch Session Series supports the educational needs of our members’ staff while satisfying licensure renewal requirements for FREE. The series is offered from April through October. Each course will be offered three times during lunch hours. This series is available to team members only – dental hygienists, dental assistants, lab techs, office managers and staff.

The New Jersey State Board of Dentistry published a notice that three new licensure requirements will need to be completed for license renewal on December 31, 2025 for dental hygienists and December 31, 2026 for registered dental assistants:

One hour of continuing education in preventing and controlling Infectious Diseases and managing personnel health and safety concerns related to infection control in dental settings.
One hour of continuing education in educational programs or topics concerning prescription Opioid Drugs
One hour of continuing education in educational programs in Professional Ethics and New Jersey law Concerning the Practice of Dental Hygiene or Dental Assisting.

The series is offered from April through October. Each course will be offered three times only during lunch hours.

In order to receive CE certification, attendees must be logged on for a minimum of 50 minutes per hour and complete a course evaluation for each course.

Each attendee must be logged into the program on their own device. Following CERP Guidelines, NO CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS WILL BE ISSUED WITH SHARED VIEWING.

These programs are NOT recorded and will NOT be available on demand. You must be logged in live during the specified times to receive credit.

Course Description: The opioid epidemic has resulted in confusion in managing dental pain. How do you manage a dental pain in a patient not able to take NSAIDs? Come and learn about current opinions and strategies for dental pain management. Rationales for current therapies as well as reasons certain medications are no longer recommended will be discussed. Learn about alternatives to opioids(not just acetaminophen and ibuprofen) and prescribing tips and tricks!

Learning Objectives:
- Learn the rationale for multiple modal drug therapy
- Learn about alternative medications for pain management to limit the use of opioids
- Learn strategies for patients unable to take NSAIDS and acetaminophen
- Recognize signs of inappropriate opioid use (addiction and diversion)

Course Description: Dental hygienists and assistants in the State of New Jersey are now required to complete at least one hour of required continuing education in the area of infection control for license renewal per the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry. This webinar will highlight requirements under this administrative ruling to include CDC infection control guidelines, modes of disease transmission, and strategies to ensure a safe dental visit for dental personnel and patients.

Learning Objectives:
- Describe modes of disease transmission and the chain of infection
- Discuss strategies to prevent occupational exposures to blood and bodily fluids.
- Discuss methods to ensure that patient-care items and environmental surfaces are safe for use.
- Identify criteria for selection and use of safe dental devices.
- Discuss methods to provide safe dental unit water and how to monitor water quality.
- Identify strategies to evaluate YOUR dental infection control program.

Course Description: "Ethics for Dentists" is designed to satisfy the ethics component of continuing education for dentists. However, the course goes further by covering current issues in dental law, regulation and guidelines based on current adverse actions levied against dental professionals in civil, criminal and administrative forums. The course focuses upon basic principles of ethical conduct pursuant to the ADA's Code of Conduct, with additional instruction of laws and regulations of the New Jersey Board of Dentistry and vital information about adverse action reporting, third party payer audits and the National Practitioner Data Bank. The course is primarily designed for risk prevention and compliance in an evolving legal landscape.

Learning Objectives:
- Understanding the Vital Importance of Professional Ethics
- Familiarity with the Nj Board of Dentistry: It's function, powers and laws
- Familiarity with Third Party Payer Issues
- Understanding the function and scope of the National Practitioner Data Bank
