The New Jersey Dental Association is the voice of the dental profession and a strong proponent of oral health in the state. Members are part of a vibrant community of dentists encompassing 12 local dental societies as well as the American Dental Association. Members engage in educational programs, have access to dentist-centric relationships and tools to navigate the business of dentistry and their careers, as well as benefit from dedicated advocacy that protects the interests of the profession. The organization is run by member-dentists with the support of a team of professionals at NJDA Headquarters. NJDA members never practice alone!

Course Description: 
This presentation is intended to provide oral health care clinicians with a review of standard precautions and related safety measures designed to reduce the likelihood of disease transmission and to update these measures as dentistry and dental hygiene move through and past the COVID era.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the chain of infection and basic methods of preventing disease transmission
  2. Describe standard precautions utilized in dental practice to reduce the likelihood of disease transmission
  3. Develop office policies and practices that promote patient safety
  4. Identify areas of concern that have emerged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic
  5. List basic principles of antibiotic stewardship
  6. Implement updated infection control recommendations
