Dr. Michael Scalia Recognized By Mercer Dental Society

Sep 11, 2024
2024 NJDA Member Recognition Awards: Each month we highlight a different recipient to publicly thank them and share their story with all NJDA members.

Let's meet another outstanding member of the inaugural class of NJDA Member Recognition Award Recipients. The next member-dentist we’re spotlighting is Dr. Michael Scalia from the Mercer Dental Society.

Throughout the years, Dr. Scalia has proven to be an invaluable leader to the Mercer Dental Society. All his colleagues agree – he is proactive, good-hearted, and exceptionally welcoming. In fact, one of the qualities of his that stands out the most is his ability to recognize, approach, and guide newer dentists in becoming a part of organized dentistry. These mentorships and his ability to readily help new leaders into their roles keep Mercer Dental Society resourceful and relevant to its members.

Dr. Scalia’s passion is practicing prosthodontics and helping patients meet their dental goals. He avidly believes in creating a comfortable and enjoyable environment for his team and their patients. He also considers himself a strong advocate for organized dentistry and loves helping out at the grassroots/local level.

Dr. Scalia encourages all tripartite members to become involved in their local dental components, at the state level (NJDA), and at the national level (ADA). He also highly suggests donating to the NJDA PAC. The old adage applies here: "Many hands make light work.” Now more than ever, he notes, it’s crucial for us to come together in organized dentistry to protect and elevate our profession. Like anything worth preserving, it takes effort and commitment to ensure our field remains self-regulated, shielded from negative outside influences, and held to the highest standards of care. By doing the work, we can preserve the integrity and trust of our profession for future generations.

Lastly, he deeply wishes everyone on our Earth can work together to live in a responsible way as there is no need for war, hatred, or racism. As Zac Brown says, “We're all in the same boat, fishing in the same hole.”
