The first member-dentist we’re spotlighting from the 2025 Member Recognition Awards is Dr. Carmine LoMonaco, who was nominated posthumously by the Essex County Dental Society.

A devoted educator, clinician, and leader, Dr. Lomonaco's career spanned over six decades of unwavering service and impact.

A graduate of St. John's University and Seton Hall College of Dentistry, Dr. Lomonaco completed his postgraduate training in Endodontics at the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He began teaching in 1966 and rose through the ranks to become a tenured professor of Endodontics. He held numerous administrative and leadership roles at the dental school and served as Director of Emergency and Urgent Care from 1998 to 2017.

Dr. Lomonaco was a tireless advocate for organized dentistry. He served as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the NJDA, and held key positions on the ADA’s Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention, the Fauchard Dental Society of New Jersey, and as Trustee of the ADA’s 4th District. At the local level, he was an active contributor to the Essex County Dental Society and the New Jersey Dental School Endodontic Alumni Association.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lomonaco earned numerous accolades, including the American College of Dentists Fellowship and the NJDA’s Presidential Service Awards in 2020 and 2024. His work extended beyond the clinic and classroom, securing major research grants and publishing scholarly work that advanced the field of dentistry.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Lomonaco was known for his generosity, mentorship, and deep sense of community. He leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and inspiration—qualities that have left an enduring mark on the profession and all who knew him.
