Let's meet another outstanding member of the 2025 class of NJDA Member Recognition Award Recipients. The next member-dentist we’re spotlighting is Dr. Sidney Whitman from Mercer Dental Society.


Dr. Sidney Whitman’s distinguished career in dentistry is rooted in a lifelong commitment to service, education, and organized dentistry. His journey began at Rutgers University, where he completed his undergraduate studies before earning his DDS from the NYU College of Dentistry. He completed a General Practice Residency at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where his passion for children’s oral health and clinical excellence flourished, and then pursued advanced training in pediatric dentistry through the Temple University Pediatric Dentistry Program.

A pediatric dentist by specialty, Dr. Whitman went on to become the managing partner of a large multi-specialty dental practice, where his leadership and clinical expertise guided countless patients and practitioners alike. Today, he continues to shape the future of pediatric dental care as the Director of Pediatric Dentistry at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Chairman of the Residency Selection Committee, mentoring new generations of dental residents with the same enthusiasm and dedication that have defined his career.

Beyond his clinical and academic accomplishments, Dr. Whitman has been a tireless advocate for oral health access and policy. He serves as Chairman of the New Jersey Oral Health Coalition, Chairman of the NJDA Committee on Medicaid & Medicare, and a member of the Dental Advisory Committee for NJ Medicaid. His influence extends nationally as former Chairman of the ADA Medicaid Provider Advisory Committee and Past President of Dental Lifeline Network, where he has worked to expand care to vulnerable populations and strengthen the profession’s commitment to public service.

A Fellow of both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists, Dr. Whitman’s professional accolades reflect not only his clinical expertise but also his ethical leadership and unwavering dedication to organized dentistry. For decades, he has been a pillar of the Mercer Dental Society, attending nearly every meeting and supporting every initiative with steadfast enthusiasm and wisdom. His colleagues describe him as a mentor to both young and seasoned dental professionals—a trusted advisor always ready to lend his vast experience to help others succeed.

Dr. Whitman’s enduring service, mentorship, and advocacy have left an indelible mark on the dental community. His leadership continues to inspire excellence, compassion, and collaboration across every level of organized dentistry, embodying the very best of the profession.
