Course Description:
This course will explore key concepts of infectious diseases, disease transmission, and the strategies we employ to lessen the chance of disease transmission in dental offices and clinics. Specifically, we will review several of the important pathogens present in the dental setting and the ways these microbes are transmitted. Utilizing this information, the procedures and products used in our infection control practices to "break the chain" of disease spread will be demonstrated. Finally, strategies to comply with regulatory agencies will be introduced. This course satisfies the NJ State Board of Dentistry's two hour mandated training in infection control.
Learning Objectives:
Following completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- List important pathogens found in the dental office.
- Discuss the concept of the chain of infection.
- Identify several ways the chain of infection can be broken utilizing infection control procedures and products.
- List the regulatory bodies involved in developing guidelines for infection control.
